Connect with The Macro Lens

At The Macro Lens, we believe in the power of partnership. Our mission is to equip and empower social workers, nonprofits, and the broader social service sector to advance social justice and drive systemic change. This page is more than a list of services; it is your gateway to connect with us, to collaborate on projects, and to forge a community committed to a more just and equitable world.

We’ve found that the most meaningful change happens when we work together. By combining our expertise in research, community engagement, and capacity building with your deep understanding of your organization and the communities you serve, we can build tools, strategies, and programs that create lasting impact. Professional Development: Compassion fatigue & self-care training

Work in the helping professions is difficult. The weight of clients’ struggles, traumas, and stories accumulates until it becomes overwhelming. While many trauma-informed trainings address client experiences, few acknowledge the toll on professionals themselves.

Our evidence-informed workshop has equipped hundreds of social service professionals with practical tools to manage stress, build resilience, and sustain meaningful work. Feedback shows that the workshop is engaging, approachable, and immediately useful, providing tangible tools to apply with colleagues, clients, and students.

Collaboration Impact: By the Numbers

Collaboration should create measurable change. After presenting to 72 associates at Des Moines Public Schools, we saw clear evidence of the training’s value:

  • 94% rated the training 4 or 5 out of 5 for helping them understand expectations in their work.
  • 97% rated it 4 or 5 out of 5 for contributing to their professional growth.

Associates described the training as “very valuable,” “super helpful,” and noted the practical nature of the tools. Many shared that they planned to immediately use what they learned with students and colleagues.

This collaboration proved that investing in staff wellbeing not only supports professionals but also strengthens their capacity to create meaningful change in the community.
